“Urquhart's poetic, almost ethereal writing invites readers to revisit certain passages and marvel…[The Night Stages] is a lovely addition to her distinguished, award-filled oeuvre.”
Library Journal

“[The Night Stages] stands as an exemplar of both Canadian and Irish literature.”
Publishers Weekly

Join us as one of Canada’s bestselling authors Jane Urquhart reads from her most rewarding novel to date, The Night Stages.

Tamara, a female pilot, recalls her affair with a man obsessed with the disappearance of his brother. Set mainly in a remote westerly tip of Ireland in the 1940s and '50s, The Night Stages is an elegiac novel of unusual emotional depth, exploring the meaning of separation, the sorrows of fractured families, and the profound effect of Ireland's wild and elemental landscape on lives shaped by its beauty.

Jane Urquhart's previous novels are The Whirlpool, Changing Heaven, Away, The Underpainter, The Stone Carvers, A Map of Glass, and Sanctuary Line, all of which have been published internationally. She is also the author of a story collection, Storm Glass, and four books of poetry. A nationally bestselling author, Urquhart has received numerous awards, including the Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger, the Harbourfront Festival Prize, and Canada's Governor General's Award. She divides her time between Ontario, Canada, and Ireland.

After Urquhart's reading, she will be joined in conversation with Darragh McKeon.
