Irish Arts Center Book Day 2011
On
March 17 we partnered with Speaker Christine Quinn and the New York City Council
for the inaugural Irish Arts Center Book Day, passing out thousands of
books by Irish and Irish American authors to New Yorkers in all five boroughs
of the city during the morning rush hour.
"I want to thank you for your Book Day celebration. A delightful group
of young people offered me a free book as I was entering the 72nd Street Subway
on Broadway. I got on the train with a smile on my face and a copy of Flann O’Brien’s “Complete
Novels.” I’m several pages into “At Swim-Two-Birds” and
I’m hooked (I had never read him before).Thank you, thank you for this
generous and random act of culture. It completely beats green beer."
